INTRODUCTION TO FIBER OPTIC CABLING, SPLICING, AND JOINTING TECHNICIAN COURSE:

*****PRACTICALLY LEARN HOW TO SPLICE AND JOINT FIBER OPTIC CABLING FOR SMALL JOBS AS A FIRST STEP TO BECOME A FIBER INSTALLATION ENGINEER*****

The purpose of this course is to meet the wide ranging needs of the communications cabling industry which is part of the communication technologies sector.

The training programme is designed for those that need to understand the basic principles of fibre optics, such as fibre types, which is used where, and why. Connector types how to avoid faults etc.

And to be able to carry out the basic practical work tasks used in installing fibre optic cables in communication networks. Being able to splice and joint fiber on small jobs.

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR:-

  • ELECTRICIANS CARRYING OUT WORKS IN SMALL NETWORKS.
  • THOSE FITTING WIRING WITHIN WIND TURBINES SO THAT THEY CAN TERMINATE FIBRE.
  • THOSE WORKING ON SMALL NETWORKS WITHIN A COMPANY THAT NEED SHORT LINKS OF FIBER.
  • THOSE INSTALLING FIBRE OPTIC CABLING, AS DIY PROJECTS (RURAL COMMUNITY DIY).
  • THOSE INSTALLING THE DROP CABLES ON THE BT, EIRCOM, SIRO, AND VIRGIN MEDIA NETWORKS.
We then demonstrate the methods of testing the fibre network that a learner is most likely to have to carry out installing fibre, such as using a visual fault locator and light source and power meter.

This is a one day course that starts off with the essential safety considerations, with an overview of the essentials of the technology that needs to be understood.

Followed by a series of practical exercises to prepare for individuals to complete these tasks in the work place. Such as the preparation, stripping, splicing, of fibre optic cables and securing them away.

ESSENTIAL THEORY CONTENT:-

  • Safety general for training location dealing with fibre.
  • Safety Considerations in the work place.
  • What is fibre optics and how does it work.
  • Wavelengths of light that are used.
  • Different fibre optic cables and where would they be used.
  • How to splicing and joint fibre and connector types.
  • How fibre cables are installed with correct cable management.

When you are with us you will work with qualified instructors that have worked in the industry doing the job they are teaching you to do. They will teach you in as realistic a work environment as can be.

Our centre has been put together with a practical working area, designed to ensure you gain the maximum benefit from this course.

PRACTICAL TRAINING
  • Fibre & Cable Preparation – Preparation of a cable ready for splicing and jointing, including cable sheath removal, buffer tube removal and fibre cleaning.
  • Connector Cleaning and inspection – The best ways to clean connectors using a visual inspection system and microscope.
  • Splicing Practice – How to operate and maintain a fusion splicer and cleaver.
  • Preparing and splicing a cable onto pigtails within a typical fibre patch panel
  • Use of a Visible Light Source to check continuity and fault find – A basic but important tool for fault finding. And finally ILM testing
  • Mechanical Splice On Connector Termination – How to terminate a FAST Mechanical Splice optical termination used on FTTH drop installations.
